Here are the rules:
  • Write for 5 minutes editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
  • Link up with Gypsy Mama and invite others to join....please consider this your invitation!!
  • Go a little overboard encouraging the writer who linked up before you
Today's Prompt:  TENDER

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another
as God in Christ forgave you".
Ephesians 4:32
I have always thought of myself as a caring, compassionate and sympathetic person....until one day a few years ago. I have always had a nurturing, mothering ability and desire...but then...

I had been in the nursing field for over ten years and a mother for fifteen....plenty of time to grow deep relationships with the elderly I took care of...plenty of time to bond intensely with my children.

I had...I did!! But then as the "grandmas and grandpas" aged, they also died and took a piece of me with them. I gave bits of me to them and they took them to the grave.

I didn't even realize how this affected me...I began building a wall to shield me from this pain and loss and then the day arrived....

The man in my life...the man that meant the world to me, lost his grandee...the man that meant the world to him and as he dealt with this guilt of sending his grandpa to the hospital where he spent his last days...words came out of my mouth that seared him like hot coals. Words that came from a cold, hardened heart...

The words that burned left a filthy taste in my mouth and there was nothing I could do to retract them. It was then that I knew I needed a heart find kindness and compassion, sympathy and sensitivity again.

I did...I have....but only by the grace and mercy of God, the true caregiver filled with compassion and love, forgiveness and kindness....tenderness!

"Oh Lord, may the words I speak today be sweet and tender, because tomorrow I may need to eat them."  ~unknown

wlw: support

The question Alicia has brought to the table this week is....

Who is your support system in this weight loss journey? A friend, your husband?

For me this journey is one I do not take alone. I have a huge support system that begins right in my own home with my husband. Although, he too fell off the wagon the last part of the year with me, we are both getting back on track...together! Ryan is my biggest encourager when it comes to getting out and doing something for me...he is the one that helped me get over the anxiety of trying Zumba. With that being said, we are also each others crutch when we fall into the "snack" habit....we are working on this and trying to substitute our snacks with healthy ones or portion controlling our "bad" ones.
I also have a couple of close friends that encourage me with healthy food choices and adding exercise to my life. We attend Zumba classes together or go for walks and last weekend we even went for a skate....not my idea of fun, but for the 30 minutes I was on the ice I knew it was working the muscles I hadn't used in awhile.
I also have my mom and dad...who I have encouraged from the beginning of my journey last April, but have helped me get out of the holiday rut....they remained on track over the holidays and I am so proud of them for that!!
I know it is a tough journey for each and everyone of us....each person in my support group have their own struggles but together we are becoming healthy and fit!!
I also have my friend Alicia the Snowflake and all that join each Wednesday for WLW....each of these ladies understand this journey and have very encouraging words and give huge support...a cyber pat on the back when a goal has been reached and a thoughtful reminder when the path was lost!
Thank you to all of you! It means so much that you are a part of this journey with me!

Jump over and visit Alicia....her post will bless you today!

calender...DIY project

Last week, I mentioned my desire need for a Command Center. As I browsed the internet and Pinterest for inspiration, I came across a few ideas for a calender. This led me to the realization that you can use glass just like a white board and so my calender was created.
Please note that although my calender is mine alone and the final decisions of colour and size were my own design, I did indeed use the inspiration of many to give me the general idea.
Here are some pics and a few simple instructions if you choose to create your own.

  1. this is the finished calender that can easily be written on with dry erase markers and wiped off with paper towel or a soft cloth
  2. a large frame (mine was 18"x24"), which I purchased on sale with a discounted coupon as less than $20 for this one. To cut costs...try second hand stores for an old picture (you will be removing it anyway....just make sure the glass and frame are in good condition)
  3. decorative paper, stickers, ribbon, and other embellishments (go wild...or keep it simple)
  4. my calender took on a new life when I used ribbon to create the lines rather than marker (just let your creative mind take over) measure your calender with equal squares....7 columns and 5 rows....I measured mine at 2.5"x2.5" for this large frame
  5. the title to our calender (again, I used the ribbon to create the letter "S") stickers and scrapbook paper and centered it on the top
  6. adding ribbon to the outside of the frame gave me a place to change the month with card stock and stickers (you could just write on the glass with your marker) I attached the black ribbon on the back of the frame and used mini cloths pins to attach the month to the ribbon
  7. a close up of the calender before I added the numbers
  8. this is a column down the right hand side to write important monthly meetings, appointments, birthdays, etc. I used the "journalling" paper you get when you scrapbook, so it was lined and makes it easy for writing notes later...again I used stickers to embellish.

I really like the look of the black and white paper and frame, with the turquoise ribbon accents. I am going to purchase coloured pens so each family member has their own colour so appointments will be more clearly identified and black ink will be used for all things "family". Now to find the best wall to hang it on!!

wlw: exercise

I will be very honest...sometime mid-October until just a couple of weeks ago, I had completely quit tracking my food intake. I also quit going to my WW meetings and on top of that, I went through many holiday meals! As a result, I wrestled with the same 5-7 pounds in an up, down. up, down cycle. I bit the bullet, jumped back on the wagon and am now more conscious of my food choices and will be back at meetings this weekend!
This week, over at Confessions of a Snowflake, Alicia has posed the following questions: What are you doing for exercise? Is it working for you? Do you need to make changes to your exercise routine? Or if you are not exercising, how can you start? What realistic fitness goals can you set?
( source )
This past week, I joined Zumba!! What a blast!! I have to say that I am not an exercise freak....don't or haven't really enjoyed it in the past because it was always boring to me. Zumba is fun!! I also have a couple of girlfriends that join me, which makes it more exciting and give me just the right push!! My goal is to attend Zumba classes twice a week and then we will see where it leads from there!!

how pinteresting!

I am in the process of creating a "Command Center" in our home! A place that will attempt to keep us a little more organized as well as give us inspiration for the day/month! I have found many ideas to spark my creativity on Pinterest. Here are a few of my favorites.

Are these not great ideas for any family? We are busy here and I need a place to jot down appointments, a Bible verse to memorize as a family and our Word of the Year as a reminder! I have 2-3 different places in my home that could work and when the project is done, I will post all the pictures. For now, I am working on an idea for a easy to use wipe off calender.

What a be amongst the craziness of life yet remain calm in my heart!
No anxiousness or animosity, no agitation or anger, no worry or upset!

Peace: harmony, reconciliation, unity, friendship, order, calm, tranquil....this is what I am truly striving for this year! With my life, my friendships, my family and with situations that may not be in my control. But this peace can not come by my strength alone...this peace that surpasses all understanding can only come from Him. He is the only one, the only way to be able to guard my heart and my mind and allow me to feel, to live and to continue to strive for this peace in all the facets of my life! Do you want to feel that peace as well?

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13

not alone

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
This is a verse that both my 5 year old daughter and now (with much encouragement from her) my 3 year old son, have memorized. What a powerful know that God will be with me everywhere! It's one thing to hear it, to memorize it but we must also believe it! Do you believe it?

I am joining Barbie again this week!
